Preparations are in the final phase for the ‘Kumar Sanu & Alka Yagnik Live in Qatar’ music show on Friday at West End Park, next to Karwa Headquarters, Mesaimeer, programme director Raheem Athavanad said yesterday. The three-hour show, which has the renowned Indian playback singers as the main attractions, is to begin at 7.30pm.
Singer Yachna Chopra and actress Mansi Verma are also part of a 24-member troupe of musicians and dancers performing on the occasion.
“Both Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik are immensely popular among the music lovers of the subcontinent, so thousands of fans are expected to attend the show,” Athanavad observed.
Kumar Sanu, one of the leading playback singers in the Indian film industry, was awarded the Filmfare Best Male Playback Singer Award for five consecutive years. In 2009, the Government of India awarded him Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour, in recognition of his achievements.
Alka Yagnik is amongst the best-known playback singers of Hindi cinema with a career spanning three decades. She is a record seven-time winner from a record of 35 nominations of the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer, a two-time recipient of the National Film Award as well as several other music awards. As many as 20 of her tracks feature in BBC’s ‘Top 40 Bollywood Soundtracks of all time’ review.
