Wyndham Grand Regency Doha, the first Middle East hotel property being managed by global hospitality leaders Wyndham Group of the USA, yesterday announced its formal changing over to a new identity.
The hotel, operated by Qatar-based hospitality entrepreneurs Regency Group Holding, was until recently known as Grand Regency Doha.
At a briefing yesterday, general manager of the Wyndham Grand Regency Doha Ayman Lotfy said the conversion to the Wyndham brand would help bring a new and distinct identity to the 246-room hotel in Al-Sadd area.
Wyndham Grand Regency Doha is now the first 5-star hotel in Qatar to be a member of the Wyndham Hotel Group, which is a 7,210-strong hotel chain, said Lotfy. “Being the first regional property of the world’s largest hotel group as Wyndham itself is something special for the Doha hotel,” he said.
The company also operates recently opened Ramada Encore Doha, which, like the Grand Regency, is also built and owned by Regency Group Holding.
In a statement issued yesterday President of the Board of Directors of Regency Group Holding Ibrahim al-Asmakh said the tie up with a prestigious brand as Wyndham would provide an important opportunity for his group to expand with a new luxurious brand in a booming market.
Al-Asmakh also said his group’s plans of opening the Plant Hollywood Hotel in 2014, which would be the first of its kind in the Middle East and the second worldwide.
The Wyndham Group has more than 612,700 hotel rooms worldwide, spread out in 65 countries.
Lotfy recalled that in the past six years, Wyndham Grand Regency in his previous umbrella has won several prestigious awards for excellence in the industry. “In May 2006, the hotel was recognised among the leading hotels in the Arab State followed by the New Millennium Award and Mena Silver Award in 2007,” he said.
