QU chemical engineering students listen to Shell presentation on gas to liquids (GTL) industry.

Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre (QSRTC), located in Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), conducted its third series of annual lectures aimed at introducing Qatar University engineering students to the gas to liquids (GTL) industry.
The chemical engineering students from Qatar University attended the lectures and covered material ranging from GTL history to today’s market requirements.
The lectures covered the different phases of manufacturing at the Pearl GTL plant in Ras Laffan. Pearl GTL is being developed by Qatar Petroleum and Shell and is the largest energy project launched in Qatar and the biggest GTL plant in the world. The presentations were given by Shell staff working in QSRTC with technical expertise and knowledge in their respective fields.
QSRTC General Manager Youssif Saleh said, “GTL has become part of our energy future, and with Pearl GTL reaching full capacity in 2012, Qatar will become the GTL capital of the world. It is important for students to be familiar with GTL because they will take over as future leaders in Qatar, and GTL will be a big part of it. We aim to share our knowledge with the students and increase the flow of information through QSRTC in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.”
