Sajina has won the Rs10mn jackpot in the TV quiz programme Ningalkkum Aakam Kodeeshwaran, the Malayalam version of the Who Wants to be a Millionaire show, hosted by film star Suresh Gopi on Asianet television.
Yesterday, Kerala Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan visited her house, where a large number of villagers had gathered, and congratulated her. Her colleagues at the District Collectorate will honour her tomorrow.
Sajina belongs to a poor family in a remote village near Nedumangad, her husband Rajan works as a casual labourer. The family lives in a small house.
“Thank God, we’ll now finish this house and give some money to the children of my husband’s brother who is no more,” Sajina said. “I can also provide better education to my two children and find a better job for my husband.”
In a press statement, the organisers said Sajina was the first contestant to win the full prize money by answering all the 15 questions correctly.
“This is a remote village and it is a moment of pride for everyone here. It’s a great achievement given the kind of background she comes from,” said Karthikeyan who presented her with a set of books and a bouquet of flowers.
The organisers said the episode would be broadcast on April 30.
