HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan yesterday evening laid the foundation stone for the Turkish Village.
HH the Emir and the Turkish president witnessed a brief film on the village and the construction phases. They also took a look at the drawings and designs of the site.
HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani attended the foundation stone-laying ceremony.
Members of the delegation accompanying the Turkish president were also present.
Earlier, an official round of talks was held at the Emiri Diwan between HH the Emir and the Turkish president.
During the session the two leaders reviewed relations between the two counties and means of developing them. In addition, they reviewed areas of co-operation at various levels and to develop them for the good of the two peoples.
HH the Emir and the Turkish president also exchanged views on regional and international matters of mutual concern.
They agreed to set up a supreme strategic co-operation council under the co-chairmanship of HH the Emir and the Turkish President to discuss means of promoting relations between the two countries and to follow up issues in various fields.
HH the Emir hosted yesterday a luncheon banquet at the Emiri Diwan in honour of President Erdogan and his accompanying delegation.
The banquet was attended by HH the Emir’s Personal Representative HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani.
It was also attended by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani and HE the Speaker of the Advisory Council Mohamed bin Mubarak al-Khulaifi and a number of their excellencies Sheikhs, ministers and dignitaries.
HH the Emir led well wishers yesterday evening to bid farewell to President Erdogan and his accompanying delegation at Hamad International Airport at the end of their two-day official visit to Qatar.
LNG to Turkey
Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said yesterday that Qatar has agreed to send 1.2bn cu m (bcm) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Turkey during the winter months to help cover demand. The shipments would be made in nine cargoes, said Yildiz, speaking in Doha in comments broadcast live by Turkish state broadcaster TRT Haber.
