One of the 11 persons injured in the bus crash, which occurred on Sunday at the Mowasalat’s Central Bus Terminus in the Al Ghanem area, has died, according to a source.
The source, who described the accident as very unfortunate said the victim succumbed to his injuries yesterday while receiving treatment at the Hamad General Hospital.
Gulf Times was unable to verify the claim as no official statement has been issued by Mowasalat since the incident, and the company could not be reached for an official comment.
The Karwa bus driver was reported to have accidentally slammed the accelerator instead of the brake, thereby ramming the waiting area of the station and knocking down some of the passengers, who were waiting to board buses.
Since Mowasalat started operating buses from the terminus some eight years ago, such an incident has never occurred, even as hundreds of thousands of commuters board buses and taxis from the area daily.
Meanwhile, during a visit to the terminus by the Gulf Times yesterday evening, it was business as usual.
Both the Mowasalat buses and Karwa taxis were seen conducting their normal duties while many passengers were seen waiting in lines.
