Qatar and Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in energy generation following a round of talks headed by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Emiri Diwan here yesterday.
The two sides reviewed bilateral relations and means of bolstering and promoting them in all fields. Regional and international issues of mutual concern, with emphasis on the situation in Syria, were also taken up.
Following the talks the Emir and Turkey’s prime minister witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in energy generation co-operation between Qatar Holding and Electric Ortime Company of Turkey.
Then the Emir hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of the Turkish prime minister.
Also yesterday, Prime Minister Erdogan inaugurated the new building of the Turkish embassy in Doha.
Premier Erdogan was accompanied during the ceremony by HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, the Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning.
In his speech on the occasion, Erdogan thanked HH the Emir for allocating a large site for the embassy.
He said that the relations between Turkey and Qatar are witnessing significant development.
He said: “We have a deep-rooted common history stretching back centuries and we had formally opened the embassies of the two countries in 1979”.
The Turkish prime minister left Doha yesterday evening after a one-day working visit to Qatar.
The Turkish premier and his accompanying delegation were seen off at the Doha International Airport by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.
Qatari Ambassador to Turkey Salem Mubarak al-Shafi, and Turkish Ambassador to Qatar Ahmet Demirok were also present.
