Dr Mohamed Saif al-Kuwari, deputy chief of the Joint Food Monitoring Committee, has said the committee will obtain random samples of potato chips found in the market and send them for laboratory examination to find details of their ingredients, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
The statement was made in a release to Arrayah in response to a recent video clip on social media, which raised concern over a type of chips, its contents and the possibility of health risks, the report states, adding that the complete results of the examinations will be revealed in the coming weeks.
While citizens have requested the authorities concerned to look into the matter, Dr al-Kuwari said the spread of such videos on food products triggers confusion and fear among consumers. He also said that his initial reaction (after watching the video) was that there was no scientific evidence based on accurate tests to indicate that the chips contained hazardous components, according to the report.
