The country’s population touched a new high of 2,116,400, as per the latest figures released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics. The latest figure is at least 48,000 more than the previous highest of 2,068,050, recorded on November 30, 2013.
The latest population figure is almost 5% more than January’s 2,106,576. The figures show that at least 1.5mn are males.
The figures are released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics in the first issue of Qatar Monthly Statistics that it publishes.
Apart from population, sections like social and economic issues are also covered in the monthly statistics.
The statistics bulletin “aims to provide a summary of data for government, private agencies and the community in general, and over time to identify the most important changes that have occurred”.
Topics like population, marriages and divorces, road accidents, movement of vessels at the ports, postal traffic, vehicles registration, traffic accidents, real estate transactions, electricity and water produced, and import and export figures are included in the publication.
The number of marriages in January was 341 and the number of divorces 106. The number of fatal traffic accidents was 14, major and minor injuries were 36 and 341 respectively.
More than 8,000 vehicles were registered in the past month, among them were around 5,000 private vehicles. Some 9,498 driving licences were issued in the last month with 539 for Qataris and 8,959 for non-Qataris.
The consumer prices index reached 115.9 points in January.
Japan was the number one country for exports with over QR12bn. South Korea was second with QR 8.7bn and India the third with QR 5.7bn.
The maximum imports were from the US (QR739mn). The UAE (534mn) and Saudi Arabia (QR415mn) were second and third.
Real estate transactions amounted to 546 with a value of QR 3.7bn.
The total electricity generated was nearly 2mn kilowatts, and water production exceeded 31mn cubic meters.
At the Doha international airport the total number of passengers were 2,944,514 with 1,115,784 arrivals, 1,087,193 departures and 741,537 in transit, in January this year.
