Citizens seek action against inaccurate road signages
A section of citizens have complained of mistakes in some road signs written in Arabic, saying these include wrong spellings and even changes in the intended meaning, local daily Al Sharq has reported. They have thus urged competent authorities to set up a mechanism for writing and putting up road signs, particularly in view of the mistakes and usage of incorrect phrases. They pointed out that some of these signs give misleading information on directions, lanes and also about the work in progress on roads.
Some members of the Central Municipal Council, too, have stressed the importance of having standards and specifications for signs. Saeed Ali al-Marri, a member of the council, has called upon the municipality to notify all companies executing projects that they should not instal signboards in a random manner and should consult the municipality before putting them up, the report added.
