HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, South Korean President Park Geun-hye and the two countries’ delegations hold talks at the Emiri Diwan.

Qatar and South Korea yesterday signed several agreements as the two countries sought to boost ties.
The agreements were signed in the presence of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and visiting South Korean President Park Geun-hye at the Emiri Diwan.
Among the pacts were a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for co-operation in diplomatic training between the Diplomatic Institute at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Diplomatic Academy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and an MoU between the Qatar’s Ministry of Energy and Industry and the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning for co-operation in the field of human resources development and research in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
Another MoU was for co-operation in the field of tourism between Qatar Tourism Authority and South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, an MoU in the field of education between the Supreme Education Council (SEC) and South Korea’s Ministry of Education.
Earlier, the Emir and the South Korean president held official talks.
The talks were attended by HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and several ministers.
On the Korean side, the talks were attended by the official delegation accompanying President Park Geun-hye.
At the outset of the session, HH the Emir welcomed the Korean president and the accompanying delegation, and expressed his delight at the visit, which represents a good opportunity for the completion of the talks held during the Emir’s visit to South Korea last November.
The Emir hailed the outstanding relations with South Korea going back more than 40 years. He said the two countries have consolidated the ties and reiterated support for the strategic partnership between the two countries.
He affirmed Qatar’s keenness to promote co-operation between the two countries and enhance the bonds of friendship between the two peoples.
For her part, President Park Geun-hye expressed gratitude and appreciation to HH the Emir for the warm hospitality and reception, hailing Qatar’s keenness on the participation of Korean companies in joint ventures and expressing confidence on the consolidation of co-operation in various fields.
Talks during the session dealt with bilateral relations and prospects of developing them in various fields in addition to a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
President Park Geun-hye was accorded an official reception ceremony when she arrived at the Emiri Diwan.
Later, the hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of the South Korean president.
The banquet was attended by several ministers and businessmen. (QNA)

♦ The Gulf Organisation for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) signed an MoU with the aim of facilitating co-operation between the two sides to support industrial sector in the GCC countries.
GOIC Assistant Secretary General for Industrial Projects Sector Dr Ali Hamed al-Mulla and KOTRA Vice-Chairman Wansug Yan signed the MoU.
The MoU aims to boost co-odination between the two organisations, notably hosting conferences, participating in researches or working papers and providing technical support. It also aims at exchanging technological information and statistical data in economic and industrial areas
Both parties agreed on the need for co-operation in the area of consultation and survey of industrial potential (IPS), with the participation of KOTRA into interactive Industrial Market Intelligence Portal (IMI Plus) by providing data and information and supporting researchers.
They also agreed to exchange professional expertise in order to build knowledge through holding seminars, conferences and workshops.
♦ The Qatari-South Korean Economic Forum began a meeting in Doha yesterday.
