HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani attended a ceremony to mark the 19th anniversary of Al Jazeera Media Network, which was held at Al Jazeera’s headquarters in Doha yesterday evening. The ceremony was attended by the chairman and board members of the Al Jazeera Media Network and a number of its employees in addition to a group of journalists and intellectuals.
HE the chairman of Al Jazeera Media Network Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer al-Thani, during his speech, said that HH the Emir’s attending the anniversary was the best testimony to his support for this unprecedented media project in the Arab world, which recognised internationally as one of the leading success stories.
“The content of satellite television news, which Al Jazeera network has been provided since its inception, will remain the cornerstone in serving large segments of our viewers,” the Al Jazeera chairman said, adding that this “unique content” would continue to be the most important factor in gaining the confidence of the viewers, as it had been over the past years.
He noted that the Al Jazeera network had taken appropriate steps to keep pace with the digital and interactive developments, starting with the launch of AJ+ in English.
“While we were the first to launch short films service, we are now preparing to launch the same service in the Arabic language,” he said..
“Building on the success of Al Jazeera Plus, we are currently working on the launch of innovative digital services to reach a wider segment of our viewers globally, especially in the digital and virtual technology areas and the means of social communication.”
