Gem of a designer
By Ramesh Mathew
Masatsugu Hara… a big hit
MASATSUGU Hara conveys much more than what his looks indicate. The long-haired Japanese designer of jewels, who is in Qatar for the first time, has become a hit at the Doha Watches and Jewels Exhibition, both with his appearance and with the pieces that his stall is offering at Alfardan pavilion.
Chief designer with Karati, his company, the Japanese craftsman strongly believes in the philosophy that tastes are to be conquered rather than imposed upon customers. “Unless, it is well acknowledged by clients, there is no way one could determine the acceptance of a particular jewel design,” Hara said.
“For us, it is too early to comment on the likes and dislikes of people of the Middle East as we have not done much business in the region earlier. However, we can say with 100% confidence that here is one society that is always prepared to welcome innovations in jewels business,” said Horiike Atsushi, who communicates mostly on Hara’s behalf.
Atsushi, director of Ideaquest Company, which markets the global marketing of Hara’s jewels said good things were picked up fast by those who fell in instant love with them.
“Resourceful buyers won’t wait for another day if they find a thing so interesting and appealing to their mind. This is more felt in this region than anywhere else,” he said.
