By Sarmad Qazi Managers should strive to obtain a project management certification which will enhance their ability to execute projects effectively, an official of the Qatar branch of Arabian Gulf Chapter (AGC) of Project Management Institute (PMI) has said. Established in 1992, the PMI-AGC currently has 3,000 active members working in oil and gas, construction, IT and other fields. The Qatar branch has more than 320 members. “This number is growing. A project management professional (PMP) certification not only adds value to the individual in terms of credentials, but they learn key areas of time, cost, procurement, risk analysis and else,” Qatar branch president Khalid Kamal Naji said. “PMI believes in making project management indispensable for business results. We here in Gulf ascertain it is a paradigm shift in the way projects are executed and managed,” said Naji, a PhD holder who teaches at Qatar University. A non-for-profit, PMI-AGC Qatar branch regularly conducts workshops helping the professionals in Qatar to prepare for the PMP Certification, one of which was held last week. “We are one of the most highly-recognised NGO in the world and work towards advancing the project management profession. Any one regardless of the background can enroll in what will teach them the deliverables of a project,” Naji, a Qatari, said. In addition to key areas of PMP, time, cost, human resources, PMI-AGC also holds seminars on other subjects such as risk management, value engineering, multiple project management and else. Attending these courses is mandatory for gaining access to the PMP Certification. Professional Development Union is a prerequisite for first timers seeking the PMP Certificate and also for current licence-holders who need to have 60 PDUs every three years, Naji explained. In addition to general and technical activities, PMI-AGC Qatar branch is scheduled to hold a Project Risk Management Professional this month. |
