The Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) and the Qatar School Sports Federation (QSSF) have won the bid to host the International Schools Federation World Schools Tennis Championships in 2015.

This was conveyed by Jan Coolen, secretary general of the International School Sport Federation in a letter to the QSSF: “On behalf of the ISF President, I have the honour to confirm that the Executive Committee approved the application of Qatar for the organization of the ISF World Schools Championship Tennis 2015.”

Under the general rules of the International Schools Federation and the rules of the International Tennis Federation, this competition is for 14- to 17-year-olds and is played in a round-robin team format, with up to six players per team and a maximum of 32 school teams from various countries (normally 16 boys teams and 16 girls teams).

ISF is the international federation of official school sport organizations and organises competitions in different sports.

“As Qatar is enjoying a period of great growth and prosperity, Doha serves as an important cultural hub for the region– one that combines both traditional and modern values. As a sporting hub that is constantly bringing in the greatest sporting talent in the world, we are honoured to be able to host the World Schools Tennis Championships in 2015 –where the youth of today can participate in a team competition and be exposed to all that the city has to offer as well,” Nasser Ghanim al-Khelaifi, president of the QTF, said yesterday.

This year’s event is being staged in Australia between April 13 and 20, and participating countries include: Australia, Belgium, Chile, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Singapore, Turkey, Ukraine and Qatar.
