Qatar takes part in Qur’an contest
Qatar takes part in the 4th edition of Kuwait’s international Qur’an recitation and memorisation contest, which runs at the International Islamic Charitable Organisation (IICO) in Kuwait until April 10. Contestant Youssef Ba’ashir, who has memorised the entire Holy Qur’an, represents Qatar in the competition that will bring together more than 50 countries.
Tamil Nadu realtors in Doha
A representative of South India Shelters (SIS) Pvt Ltd from Tamil Nadu is in town to promote two of their projects which are currently under development in Chennai and Tiruchi.
A company official said the projects ‘SIS Marakesh’ at Urapakkam, very close to the proposed integrated bus terminal at Vandalur, and `SIS Acrapole’ in East Pudur, Tiruchi, comprise flats of different sizes.
The project in Chennai is spread over 6.32 acres, and consists of 360 residential units ranging from 632 square feet to 1,480 square feet and the other in Tiruchi is located over 6.63 acres, comprises 600 apartments ranging from 1,037 feet to 1,420 square feet.
According to a company official, both the projects have amenities like generators, service and passenger lifts, centralised gas pipe connections to each apartment, air-conditioned gym, children’s play area, Internet facility through Wi-Fi, EPABX system, landscaping, common rest room for domestic helpers and garbage chutes.
H Ayyappan, head, international sales of SIS Group, said their company was formed in 2002 with a vision to incorporate the most modern features and amenities at a reasonable price. The company officials are available at Gulf Paradise until April 5.
Project Qatar set for May 6 opening
This year’s edition of Project Qatar, a premier international and regional construction, building, environmental technology, and materials exhibition, will be held at the Doha Exhibition
Centre from May 6 to 9.
Project Qatar 2013 will be held under the auspices of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani. The exhibition will host thousands of businesspeople and project managers from local and regional companies.
Additionally, the opening ceremony for Project Qatar 2013 will gather trade ministers, ambassadors, trade delegations, foreign chambers of commerce, and government officials. Project Qatar is a complete marketplace for products and services and an essential access point for reaching key decision-makers in Qatar, whose construction market is pegged to grow annually by 12.5% over the next decade.
Details for Project Qatar 2013, including sponsors, will be officially announced at a special event later this month. This year, Project Qatar 2013 will unveil an advanced matchmaking platform for businesses and will launch FMQ Facility Management Qatar – the country’s first facilities management conference for a sector valued at $892bn in the GCC alone.
Additionally, the Man and Architecture (M&A) conference, a prestigious knowledge-sharing platform for the architectural and engineering industry, will take place during the exhibition.

SFS-Q’s Young Leaders seminar to begin tomorrow
Georgetown School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Q) will tomorrow commence Young Leaders Seminar - one of its primary annual outreach initiatives.
The three-day interactive programme will bring together some 18 young leaders from across Middle East, North Africa, East Africa and Southeast Asia to participate in discussions with Georgetown faculty and leading experts drawn from academia and the public and private sectors, to examine some of the most significant global trends and the international issues affecting them.
Reflecting on the goals of the conference, Gerd Nonneman, institution’s dean, said: “This programme not only identifies emerging leaders, but provides them with an invaluable opportunity to discuss issues with top level experts. This will be a stepping stone in the cultivation of a long-term network that will buttress these young people’s roles in their own communities and the world beyond.”
The selected young leaders, representing a diverse range of professional industries including education, finance, management consulting, healthcare, sports, and non-profit organisations, will be given the opportunity to learn from and interact with experts such as Supreme Council of Health Assistant Secretary General for Policy Affairs Dr Faleh Mohamed Hussain Ali, Brookings Doha Centre deputy director Ibrahim Sharqieh, Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) Social Innovation director Dr Patrick Meier and Indian Council on Global Relations Gateway House executive director Manjeet Kripalani.
“This year, we have extended our outreach efforts to include greater involvement of our Qatar-based community partners,” Outreach and Business Development executive director Jonathan Cartmell said adding: “The expertise of local industry leadership will greatly enrich the programme, while the participation of a significant number of rising young Qatari leaders will have a much longer-term impact on Qatar’s national development strategy.”
Major themes to be discussed will include South Asia’s transformed role in global affairs, water and food security, the impact of technology on humanitarian response, equity in Qatar’s health system and the influence of media on international relations among other global issues.
A central highlight of the weekend programme will be a formal dinner on Saturday evening, to which business and community leaders have been invited to meet and engage with the young leaders and Georgetown students.
The event will feature a keynote address given by Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee secretary general Hassan al-Thawadi.
Pakistan agency approves Rizon Jet’s Doha facility
Rizon Jet recently earned Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) designation from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) for its Doha facility. With this authorisation, various business aircraft registered under the PCAA can undergo maintenance, repairs and inspections at Rizon Jet’s maintenance facility in Qatar.
“As the Pakistan registry continues to grow, it is an important authorisation for Rizon Jet,” Capt Hassan al-Mousawi, CEO, Rizon Jet, said, adding: “Earning this approval adds to our global suite of approvals at our MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) bases in Doha and London Biggin Hill. It gives Bombardier and Hawker aircraft operators another option for comprehensive quality service and support.”

Pakistan 145.
