Leaders belonging to the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) states and several Arab and Islamic countries met HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani at Al Wajba Palace yesterday and offered their condolences on the death of HH the Grandfather Emir Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani.
HH the Grandfather Emir Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani died on Sunday, October 23. He was 84.
HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani received Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah who offered his condolences on the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani.
The Kuwaiti emir was accompanied by Sheikh Jaber al-Abdullah al-Jaber al-Sabah, Sheikh Faisal al-Saud al-Mohamed al-Sabah, Kuwait National Guard’s (KNG) Deputy Chief Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, Sheikh Nasser al-Mohamed al-Ahmad al-Sabah, Minister of Emiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Nasser Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah al-Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah.
HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani, HE Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Khalifa al-Thani, HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani, HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani, HE Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa al-Thani, and the sons of HH the Father Emir, were also present on the occasion.
UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan also offered their condolences to HH the Emir and HH the Father Emir.
Ruler of Ajman Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid al-Nuaimi, Ruler of Fujairah Sheikh Hamad bin Mohamed al-Sharqi, Ruler of Umm Al Quwain Sheikh Saud bin Rashid al-Mu’alla, Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al-Qasimi, Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al-Maktoum, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Saif bin Zayed al-Nahyan, National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed al-Nahyan, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan also offered their condolences.
HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, the personal representative of HH the Emir, was present during the reception. HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani and the sons of HH the Father Emir were also present for the reception.
Prince Salman bin Hamad al-Khalifah, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain also met HH the Emir and HH the Father Emir to convey his condolences.
HH the Emir and HH the Father Emir also received the Adviser to Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq al-Said, Representative of King Mohamed VI of Morocco Prince Moulay Rachid, and former president of Sudan Field Marshal Abdel Rahman Swar al-Dahab, who expressed their condolences on the death of HH the Grandfather Emir Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani.
Crown Prince, Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior of Saudi Arabia, Mohamed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, and Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, president and chairman of the Board of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage in Saudi Arabia, also met HH the Emir and HH the Father Emir and offered his condolences.
Prince al-Waleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz al-Saud also offered his condolences to the Emir and the Father Emir.
HH The Emir and HH the Father Emir also received GCC Secretary General Dr Abdul Latif bin Rashid al-Zayani, who offered condolences on the death of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani.
Among other leaders who met the Emir and the Father Emir yesterday to offer their condolences were the President of Yemen Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Ibrahim Mohamed Hamid, assistant of President of Sudan Omar Hassan al-Bashir, former president of Lebanon General Michel Sleiman, son of Venezuelan president Nicolas Ernesto Maduro, and head of Tunisia’s Ennahda Movement Rashid Ghannouchi.
Separately, the Emir received telephone calls yesterday from a number of presidents of Arab and Islamic countries who offered their condolences on the death of HH the Grandfather Emir Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani.
The Emir received phone calls from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Sudanese President Field Marshal Omar Hassan al-Bashir, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh.
