The Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) accomplished 40 integrated gardens throughout Qatar from 2010 until 2016, it was announced yesterday.
This takes the total number of public gardens and parks around the country to 87. In 2016, the department planted 1mn lemon trees, and produced more than 2mn seasonal flowers for summer and winter, in addition to other achievements such as introducing scores of new types of decoration plants into the country. Further, the department took part in various public events decorating the venues with beautiful plants and flowers.
At the Doha Zoo, which remains closed for renovation, about a 100 new births were registered in 2016. The authorities concerned seized eight predators, more than 30 monkeys and two chimpanzees during last year and shifted them to the zoo.
