Great Britain’s artistic gymnastics team arrived in Doha yesterday for a one-week training camp. The squad was received at the Hamad International Airport by Qatar Gymnastics Federation (QGF) officials.
The training camp will be held till February 2, a QGF statement said yesterday.
The Team GB training in Doha is part of an exchange programme agreed between the two countries national bodies. QGF said that young Qatari gymnasts will benefit from rubbing shoulders with British athletes and they train together.
After training session, British gymnasts were impressed with the facilities on offer and praised the world gym equipment at their disposal. Some of the British gymnasts are expected to feature at the 10th FIG ART World Challenge Cup to be held in Doha in March. QGF has been active in conducting training camps and hosting other workshops and it remains committed to developing the sport of gymnastics at grassroots level in the country.
Last week, QGF had conducted an International Judges Course organised in collaboration between International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). Officials from Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Singapore, China, India and Korea North, Hungary besides Qatar featured at the January 19-20 symposium.
Last month, QGF hosted a Level 3 FIG Academy for Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics from December 3-10, 2016.
