The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has carried out a surprise inspection campaign at the central market for vegetables and fruits in Abu Hamour, leading to the detection of seven violations.
The initiative covered vegetable and fruit auction squares as well as wholesale and retail stores.
The campaign was carried out in order to monitor the compliance of suppliers and vendors with their obligations under Law No 8 of 2008 on Consumer Protection and ensure that the prices of vegetables and fruits issued by the MEC were adhered to by retailers.
The ministry said in a press statement yesterday that the inspection campaign resulted in the detection of seven violations, which included non-display of prices and descriptions of goods in Arabic.
Accordingly, each violator was fined QR6,000.
The MEC stressed that it would continue with its daily inspection campaigns across all regions of the country, covering various sectors and commercial activities.
It also noted that it would firmly deal with those who do not carry out their obligations under the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulation, and refer the violators of laws and ministerial decrees to the competent authorities to take action against them and protect consumer rights.
