Inspection campaigns carried out by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce on commercial complexes resulted in the detection of 27 violations, varying from non-announcement of prices, lack of advertising in Arabic as well as the announcement of unauthorised promotional offers.
A statement issued by the ministry said that fines imposed on one violation ranged between QR5,000 and QR6,000, for violating the provisions of Law No (8) of 2008 on consumer protection and ministerial decision No (5) of 1984, regarding public sales.
These inspections are carried out by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in the framework of its keenness to monitor the markets and commercial activities in the country, and to ascertain the extent to which suppliers (shops) comply with their obligations under the laws and regulations governing the conduct of commercial activities.
The ministry stressed the necessity of initiating without delay the adoption of designs and models of the (shopping with confidence) mark in all the advertisements of sales and promotions.
The ministry also wanted placing them on the invoices delivered to customers, adding that this indicates that the shop has a license to offer discounts from the competent authorities in the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, and that these offers and discounts are in accordance with the legislation in force and conforming to all the standards and legal measures.
