A second Turkish ship is set to deliver food supplies to Qatar by the end of August, Daily Sabah, quoting the Anadolu Agency, has said.
The ship was loaded at the Aegean port of Aliaga, from where the first food-laden vessel set off for Qatar.
Packed with dry food, fruits and vegetables, the second ship is scheduled to anchor at Hamad Port on August 26, five days before Eid al-Adha, according to Daily Sabah.
?pek Demirci, general manager of the logistics company behind the shipment told Anadolu Agency that the second vessel has more loading capacity than the first ship, which carried about 4,000 tonnes of food products to Qatar in June.
Emphasising that the company had gained significant experience from handling the first shipment, Demirci said: "Our goal is to do this every 15 days. We have started to plan and prepare for this endeavour. We are trying to gain experience to provide a regular service."
She added that they planned to send a third ship after the end of Eid al-Adha in early September.
An issue arose with the first shipment, as many of the food products did not have labels in the Arabic script, Demirci said. The problem has been resolved with the second ship, which will contain new products with Arabic labels.
Speaking of a growing fondness for Turkish products in Qatar, Demirci said: "There are more than just Turkish products in Qatar, but consumers are now showing a demand for our items. Business people have also turned to our products and (Qatari) supermarkets want to sell more of Turkish foods."
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain abruptly cut diplomatic relations with Qatar on June 5, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism, claims which Doha has repeatedly denied.
