Al Rayyan Municipality conducted as many as 9,405 inspection tours on the food facilities within its jurisdiction during 2017. It also conducted 1,077 reviews of commercial facilities to issue new commercial licences, and implemented 37 joint sudden inspection campaigns during the same period.
In addition, 132 temporary commercial licences were issued. The municipality also issued a considerable number of violations notices for various breaches of the law with some of them resolved through reconciliation after paying the set fines. The food destroyed for being unfit for human consumption last year included 552 full carcasses of sheep, mainly for not complying with the standard health regulations.
Similarly, 25 commercial outlets were temporarily closed for not complying with the laws and regulations. The total amounts for the fines collected last year was QR1.31mn.
