The proposed offices would serve as a one-stop facility, combining both traffic and insurance services, it is understood.
The General Directorate of Traffic has been successful through a number of measures to overcome many challenges, according to a statement.
Geographic Information System was used for the production of maps, drawings and engineering software. Two new traffic offices were opened in The Pearl Qatar and in the South while also completing the first phase of linking the security system to the traffic system.
A search and investigation team was formed to investigate serious incidents in addition to the activation of security cameras “Talaa” to control traffic violations and realise the highest rates of traffic safety.
In order to raise the awareness of the people and enhance the media campaigns, the department signed agreements and partnerships with Ministry of Culture and Sports, secondary schools and extended collaboration with Qatar University in the fields of researches and traffic studies.
As part of implementing the strategy of paperless transactions, the first phase of the registration of unknown accidents through Metrash2 was implemented. Mechanical inspection of mechanical vehicles was linked to the traffic system, and paper report was stopped. The transfer of ownership and renewal of driving licenses for all vehicles can be completed through Metrash 2.
These measures were positively reflected in figures. In the Licensing and Permits Section, the works showed increase of 10.2%. The total work amounted to 89,758 transactions in 2016, it went up to 98,932 in 2017. The work of the traffic planning section increased by 9.4% compared to 2016.
The Support and Operations Section recorded an increase of 257% with a total of 348 activities for 2017, while in 2016 there were 97 activities.
The Traffic Awareness Section indicated an increase in the awareness activities by 7% in 2017 compared to activities in 2016. The total activities of 2016 included awareness to pedestrians, the ideal driver, and the awareness of school students and in winter camps, community awareness, external partnerships, and during the National Day, Ramadan campaign. While 264 activities were held in 2016, 282 activities took place in 2017.
The Department of Studies and Traffic Information has also achieved a 15% increase in the number of studies, monthly reports, statistical indicators, surveys and opinion polls.
Enhanced internal and external training courses are key factors to achieve this vision. The number of participants in the internal courses increased in 2017 to reach 889 participants, while 503 participants took part in 2016. As for the external courses, 83 participants attended in 2017 whereas 48 persons participated in 2016.
