His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on Tuesday led a large number of Qatar residents and visitors in celebrating the seventh National Sport Day (NSD) on a grand scale at locations across the country to raise awareness of the importance of sport and its role in the life of communities.
His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development chairperson Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) president HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, ministers and other dignitaries participated in various activities.
His Highness the Emir rode a bicycle through Doha Corniche and the West Bay towers area, sending out a message to keep practising different kinds of sport for good health and fitness. 



His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani walking in the front yard of Emiri Diwan on Tuesday morning.

His Highness the Father Emir carried out a walking exercise in the front yard of Emiri Diwan. He also witnessed a show of camels and pure Arabian horses.
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani, HE Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa al-Thani and a number of Their Excellencies, Sheikhs and ministers also participated along with His Highness the Father Emir.
Her Highness Sheikha Moza was joined in the Education City campus by HE Sheikh Joaan, HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, HE the Minister of State Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, ExxonMobil Qatar president and general manager Alistair Routledge and a large number of people from the community. 
HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister participated in an event organised by the Ministry of Interior’s Police Sports Federation, at Qatar Sports Club.
HE Sheikh Joaan participated in Aspire Zone Foundation's National Sport Day events which attracted large numbers of citizens and residents.
HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali participated in the activities in addition to the presence of a large number of AZF senior officials and staff.
HE Sheikh Joaan expressed pride that Qatar is one of the first countries in the world and the first in the Middle East to dedicate a paid day of sports to all residents. 
He noted that in order to enrich the event, QOC organised 72 sporting events for all segments of society of all ages, with the aim of giving everyone the opportunity to exercise.
HE al-Ali participated in a volleyball game for AZF staff along with AZF president Hilal Jaham al-Kuwari and CEO Mohamed Khalifa al-Suwaidi.
Qatar’s NSD is organised in the second Tuesday of February in response to the Emiri decree No. 80 of 2011. It is an unprecedented and unique initiative that aims to raise awareness of the importance of sport and its role in the life of communities.
