Qatar Automobiles Company (QAC), the authorised distributor of Mitsubishi Motors in Qatar, has launched the all-new 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross at a special function held at the company’s showroom on Salwa Road.
The unveiling of the car was attended by Sheikh Faleh bin Nawaf al-Thani, Automotive Operations director at Nasser Bin Khaled (NBK) Holding, along with NBK executives, partners and customers.
Sheikh Faleh said: “At Qatar Automobiles Company, we are proud to offer the new 2018 Eclipse Cross in the Qatari market. Customers can now drive one of the best SUVs in the market, thanks to its high performance, technology and distinctive features. This SUV will set a new benchmark as a new breed of crossover and we are confident that it will appeal to all ages.”
The Eclipse Cross’s “beautiful, dynamic form creates the same sense of excitement and inspiration as the diamond ring effect during a total eclipse. The new vehicle’s high-saturation red exterior colour evokes the brilliance of the sun’s halo flaring from behind the moon”, QAC said in a statement.
Produced in the US from 1989, the name Eclipse now combines with Cross (short for “crossover”) in the all-new Eclipse Cross, a model that “elevates the pleasure of the driving experience”.
“The styling stimulates your desire to drive with a single glance and fills you with confidence. Like an athlete in motion, the sculpted wedge shape and sharp, dynamic character lines leave a strong impression wherever you go,” the statement said.
“From a distinctive horizontal instrument panel to shining silver trim and monotone colour scheme, the cockpit welcomes you to a bold new experience with Display Audio and Head Up Display keeping you stimulated and informed.”
The newly developed 1.5L direct-injection downsize turbo engine provides a “pleasing response, high revolutions and strong acceleration”.
Mitsubishi Motors has also attached importance to the quality of the ride. Cars offering a great ride tend to have highly rigid bodies, but blindly adding rigidity can easily increase vehicle weight. So how does one construct a body that is both lightweight and rigid? The development team turned to adhesive technologies, QAC points out.
The Eclipse Cross is a crossover that only Mitsubishi Motors, with its long tradition of building SUVs, could have made, said Ihab El Feky, NBK Automotive director. “While specifically focusing on a ‘stylish SUV’, Mitsubishi Motors also aimed to reach new audiences by eliminating compromise and meeting user demands. This is what drove Mitsubishi Motors to release the new SUV.”
The underbody and suspension have been optimised to improve handling and vehicle stability without affecting ride quality or comfort. Detail refinements to the well-proven chassis and body structure give Eclipse Cross more direct handling and a superior ride.
The Eclipse Cross is also equipped with the latest active safety technologies, including Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot System, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control and Ultrasonic-misacceleration Mitigation System to predict situations that can lead to an accident and assist the driver in avoiding them.
