The exhibition, which was inaugurated yesterday, is a collection of 50 photographs captured at Losail International Circuit and in other circuits by renowned Italian motorsport photographers Gigi Soldano and Mirco Lazzari. The exhibition is on display at Youth Hobbies Centre (Building 18) at Katara and is open to public from today till 18th March.
The Grand Prix of Qatar is one of the most spectacular events on the MotoGP calendar and will take place under the floodlights at Losail International Circuit from March16-18.
The first Grand Prix of Qatar was held at Losail in 2004 and in 2008, history was created with the first floodlit Grand Prix ever for the MotoGP Championship. The 15th edition promises to be the most exciting one with new activities and dedicated fan zones for the families too.
The photographs on display at Katara are a visual treat, which captures some stunning stills. Soldano has been a professional photographer since the late 80’s and is specialised in motorsports photography. With thirty years of experience, Soldano is well known and appreciated throughout the motorcycling world. “I try to capture the soul of the riders. It is difficult but this is the best way for me to express my pictures. It is the first time that my photos are being exhibited in Qatar. It is a great experience for me. I want to thank Losail Circuit Sports Club and Youth Hobbies Centre for giving me this opportunity,” Soldano said on the sidelines of the inauguration yesterday.
Lazzarii has been a photographer since 1989. He started with taking pictures of car racing and Formula 1, before switching to MotoGP in 2001.
“This exhibition is very important as it is my first one outside Europe. Usually, I show my photos in a film and this time it has been exhibited in print,” Lazzarii said yesterday.
“It’s an emotional moment to have my photos displayed here on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Grand Prix of Qatar. I have been taking photos at Losail International Circuit since the first year and shooting at night is amazing and wonderful,” the Italian added.
The inauguration of exhibition was attended by LCSC Vice President and General Manager Khalid al-Remaihi, QMMF President Abdulrehman al-Mannai, QMMF General Secretary Abdulrazak al-Kuwari and Abdulaziz al-Qubaisi, representative from Youth Hobbies Centre.
