Qatar’s Nasser al-Yafei and Rashed Nawaf made it to the doubles quarter-finals at the Qatar Asian Junior under-14 tournament yesterday. The event is organised by the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation (QTSBF) in co-ordination with the Asian Tennis Federation.
Alyafei and Nawaf secured their last eight spot after beating the Indian duo of Sannigdh Raghavan and Callistus Britto Veerakumar 6-0, 6-0 in the first round.
In the semi-final, the Qatari duo will take on Aryan Giri and Aarav Hada of Nepal.
In singles, Nasser al-Yafei sailed into the second round after his 6-3, 6-3 victory over Amin Ashkar of Austria. Rashed Nawaf also made it to the second round after blanking Mohamed Kitouh of Syria 6-0, 6-0. Around 100 players from Pakistan, Jordan, Lebanon, Nepal, Iran, Uzbekistan and hosts Qatar are competing in the tournament.
As a host federation, the QTSBF has invited a number of Qatari players to participate in the main draw including Ali Al-Yafei, Adel Ghanim, Nasser al-Khelaifi, Amna al-Qaet and Taima Hasiba.
