PHCC suggests healthy eating to enjoy Eid
The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has suggested several measures and healthy options to enjoy Eid al-Adha.
PHCC has advised everyone to avoid overeating as it has a lasting impact on human body, causing obesity which in return can cause diabetes and heart diseases.
PHCC also asks everyone to choose quality over quantity, eat healthy and decide the foods that are the best and the fulfilling ones for the body. Always use a small plate instead of a large one.
Research shows that people first eat with the eyes, so a small plate can help them in getting a feel that they have taken enough food but the portion will definitely be smaller than in a large plate.
Hence, this will lead to eating less.
Moreover, if people start the meal with a glass of water, it can make them fuller before the meal and make them eat less, as a result.
Another way to healthy eating is to eat slowly.
The feeling of fullness can take around 20 minutes before the brain recognises the signals.
Eating fast overrides these signals and causes people to eat more than what they need.
When slowing down and chewing the food properly, people get more satisfaction with the food and also help the brain recognise the signals of fullness.
People are also advised to eat proteins more.
Eating protein prior to the ingestion of sugars will help minimise blood sugar spikes.
Protein is also helpful in making people feel fuller.
The foods that best promote satisfaction contain protein, water, fibre and healthy fats.
Additionally, the best way to feel a guilt-free Eid al-Adha is to exercise before sitting at the dining table. A brisk walk or a cardio exercise can help people feel eat leisurely and enjoy the delicious food items. It is also advisable to have a 20 minutes leisurely walk so that it will help in digesting the food faster.
