Former Germany football captain and current general manager Oliver Bierhoff, accompanied by team operations manager Thomas Beheshti, visited the Qatar Stars League headquarters. Bierhoff and Beheshti were part of the German Football Association (DFB) delegation, which was in Doha recently.
Topics discussed included the Qatar’s readiness to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022, exchange of expertise, the Aspire Zone Foundation’s experience and the DFB’s plans to establish a new centre for the national teams and a sports academy in Frankfurt.
Bierhoff was received by QSL’s Acting Executive Director of Competitions & Football Development Ahmed Khellil Abbassi in the presence of Head of Football Development Miguel Heitor.
Abbasi hoped that the meeting would help the development of professional football in the two friendly countries and looked forward to further co-ordination and co-operation on a mutual basis.
Bierhoff and Beheshti gave a brief on the style of functioning at the DFB and its various departments. They also discussed ways to boost ties besides a number of issues related to football, especially challenges and relations with clubs as well as the game’s development, and exchange of experience and expertise in match analysis and football development.
Bierhoff is one of the prominent players to have donned the Germany jersey. He has represented club sides such as Bayer Leverkusen, Hamburger SV, Udinese and AC Milan. The 50-year-old is best remembered for scoring the first golden goal in the history of German national team, in the Euro 96 final for victorious Germany against the Czech Republic.
