Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) celebrates yesterday, World First Aid Day 2019, with a series of lectures and educational and training sessions. It will run until September 19 under the slogan “First Aid and Excluded People” and is implemented by an integrated team of health education experts in its medical affairs sector.
QRCS targets with these events, students, teachers, administrative staff, parents, safety groups, and persons with special needs, their companions and workers to raise awareness of the health risks they may face in the workplace, ways to prevent them, and how to help the various injuries that may occur to the same or to others.
“First aid is the immediate care given to an injured or ill person prior to medical assistance or ambulance vehicle being available,” said Head of Health Education at Medical Affairs Division at QRCS Dr Ahmed Idlibi. “As a subdiscipline of emergency medicine, it is the first step in medical training for first responders, physicians, and non-specialist society members”.
Dr Idlibi emphasised, provided first-aid training that utilises the best technology and scientific skills. By being trained to help patients or victims of any kind of accident, society members are well equipped to deal with everyday issues, achieve the social and humanitarian value of saving lives, and be fully prepared for any emergency that may arise.
He added, “Another complementary side to ensure individual safety is community health education. It is a development programme aimed at promoting health awareness and preventive health knowledge among individuals. Through health awareness messages, it seeks to educate society members in the field of public health, as well as to make them able to exercise a voluntary health education role within their social sphere, for disease control and prevention”.
In 2000, World First Aid Day was started by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Every year, more than 100 Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies observe the day by teaching people about the benefits of first aid and the right way to do it.
According to IFRC, the theme of World First Aid Day 2019 is “First Aid and Excluded People”. Its main aim is to raise awareness of how first aid can prevent injuries and save lives every day and in crisis situation. It also promotes accessibility to first
aid. (QNA)
