The Centre for Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan) has concluded the 'Effective Communication' programme to teach the elderly how to use Microsoft Teams as a mode of remote communication. This will enable the elderly to attend workshops and lectures provided by the centre to them remotely, and help them keep pace with developments in this era of information technology, Ehsan has said in a statement.
The centre seeks to bridge the gap between generations by training the elderly and enabling them to use technologies that bring people together, the statement notes.
Sheikha al-Hareeb, head of the Implementation and Follow-up Department, said the centre organised eight workshops since the start of the month, including a special one for men. Six trainees attended each workshop. She explained that the centre seeks to hold more workshops in the future, especially for employees in charge of caring for the elderly who are members of the Ehsan Club. Such people have direct contact with the elderly and should treat them in a way that achieves empowerment and care while providing the elderly with the decent life they deserve.
Kaltham al-Sulaiti, a mother and member of the club, hailed the benefits of Ehsan's programmes. She joined Ehsan Club's Izghawa branch in 2017, she said, expressing her happiness to join the club and stressed the importance of organising such workshops. Al-Sulaiti said she attends meetings with a number of schools using remote communication, and so the workshop was useful for her. She praised the way in which lecturer Zainab Massad Qadar presented the workshop.
"We need Ehsan to offer easy workshops that we can understand in a fun and fast way," she said. "Before the Covid-19 pandemic, we used to meet with the club’s members and participate in religious lectures and Holy Qur'an memorisation classes, which we benefited a lot from. We wish life would come back to normal to allow for the organisation of similar in-person workshops."
She commended the specialists working at Ehsan who follow up daily with elderly mothers, even during the pandemic, sending messages via WhatsApp as well as links to lectures and seminars that would enrich mothers. The activities concluded by honouring Qadar for her efforts in presenting the workshops to female members.
