The forum also honoured Elizabeth, the only shooter coming from the hilly Kerala district.
Lauding the efforts of the Indian marksmen and women at the championship, where the team won 13 medals, including seven gold, Thomas was modest enough to acknowledge that India still had a long way to go at the global level.
The coach also complimented the support extended to Elizabeth by her parents. “Otherwise, she would not have got into the Indian national team for the Asian championship,” he said.
Elizabeth said she was very happy after winning two silver medals in the championship. The shooter said she could achieve this only because of the training that she had received at the shooting range in her native Thodupuzha.
As a token of appreciation, Idea Qatar presented mementos to Sunny Thomas and Elizabeth by forum president John Wilson and cultural secretary Ananthakrishnan.
Idea Qatar secretary Gigi Varghese welcomed the gathering and Unnikrishnan compared the programme.
