The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is an opportunity for the world to learn about the culture and peace loving nature of Qatar and the Arab world, Qatar 2022 legacy ambassadors said at a media interaction event Sunday.
According to former Qatar national football player Ibrahaim al-Khalfan, it has been a long wait for his country for the World Cup.
“We have been waiting for the World Cup for a long time, and we are living the moments now,” he said. “We hope that the world will have a better idea about our country, the Arab world, and its culture.”
“We are very happy with the organisation of the World Cup activities that have dazzled the world,” al-Khalfan continued.
“Qatar was also able to send a great humanitarian message to the world at the opening ceremony,” he said. “It was a great expression of treating everyone with dignity and respect. Qatari society along with the Arab community loves peace and coexistence with everyone.”
Fellow former national football player Adel Khamis felt that the criticism against the country was very unfair and noted that the world has to move together and understand one another.
“When you reach this country, you are in for big and pleasant surprises which can change several perceptions about our country and the entire Arab world,” he said. “We hope that the World Cup will help many to understand our country better and set right all the negative criticism.”
Khamis said that Team Qatar did not rise up to the expectations in their group matches, possibly because of the pressure of playing in the World Cup or playing before a home audience at such a major tournament.
