Qatar University (QU) students successfully adjourned the fourth Summer Research Internship Programme 2022 (SRIP 2022).The objective was to enhance the undergraduate students’ capacity to delve deeper into the research domain and thereby improve their outlook on scientific research and competency enrichment.This year, the Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC) introduced three different tracks to carry out the programme, including one which focused on the ‘Outcomes Directed Intensive Research’, which drives student-learning outcomes, resulting in scholarly publications.A total of 141 students from all three tracks received certificates for their successful project completion. Track 1 students presented 16 scientific posters. Track 2, on ‘Research & Training Focused’ had 53 participants, who completed their projects focusing on technical competency enhancement.In addition, two internship projects were executed at the premises of ExxonMobil and Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco), for seven Qatari students. Vice president for Research & Graduate Studies, Prof Mariam al-Maadeed, officially concluded the programme at an event graced by Qapco's strategic Qatarisation manager Abdulrahman Sultan al-Darwish.Eight participating research centres and four colleges produced 22 projects. The research centres include the QUYSC, Center for Advanced Materials, Laboratory Animal Research Center, Central Laboratories Unit, Environmental Science Center, Biomedical Research Center, Social and Economic Survey Research Institute and Center for Sustainable Development while the participating colleges are College of Dental Medicine, College of Engineering, College of Arts and Sciences and College of Education.The participating centres, colleges, and organisations were honoured by Prof al-Maadeed, who also distributed the certificates to the faculty mentors. She also highlighted the significance of their contributions towards securing the future of the nation saying: "It is highly desired to promote the multi-skilled and highly competent young generation, ensuring to make them capable of reigning in the progress of our nation, which is attained with active collaboration and participation from academicians and industries through such research internship programmes.”In his speech, Al-Darwish stressed the importance of collaboration between industries and academia. QUYSC director Prof Noora Jabor al-Thani, also conveyed her inspiration and support to the participants.
