At least three people died and 19 others were injured Monday as a result of Cyclone Mandous that swept Sri Lanka.
The Disaster Management Center in Sri Lanka said today that three people have died and more than 21,000 others have been affected by the bad weather caused by Cyclone Mandous, pointing out that the affected people belong to 6,113 families in 16 regions, and 5,639 homes were damaged in different parts of the country.
Deputy director of the Center for Disaster Management Pradeep Kodippili said they have already started assessing the damage and those affected will be compensated.
The Disaster Management Center also noted that the impacts of Mandous have been significantly reduced but Sri Lankans are still being asked to take precautions.
In 2017, monsoon rains that hit Sri Lanka in mid-May caused severe floods and landslides in several districts across the country, killing more than 200 people and displacing thousands.
