The Qatar University Young Scientists Centre (QU-YSC) was recently announced as recipient of the silver award at the Reimagine Education 2022 conference and competition.
QU-YSC achieved this from among 1,100 nominated projects from 77 countries during four rounds of careful and intensive arbitration led by 500 arbitrators specialised in education and innovation.
Reimagine Education is a global conference and competition that brings together educational innovators from around the world. The conference unites edtech startups, innovative education institutions, academic faculty from top institutions and universities, chief innovation officers, university leadership, educators and all those interested in the future of education and higher education.
The competition and conference were established by the University of Wharton in the US and the QS company that specialises in evaluating universities globally.
The Reimagine Education Awards are the Oscars of education, rewarding innovative approaches that enhance student learning outcomes and employability and providing funding and support for the winners overall.
The conference has many sponsors and partners, the most important of which are Microsoft, IBM, Google and Nova University Lisbon.
The centre has achieved this victory among many competitors for its use of effective and innovative teaching methods that have been developed in keeping with international methodologies and origins of education, which motivate students to learn, be creative and actively participate in the educational process.
One of the most important methodologies used is to involve students in applied scientific research, prepare them to work as promising researchers, train them to work in Qatar University research laboratories, gain experience using the latest laboratory equipment, and stimulate their sense of creativity and innovation.
In addition, the centre includes various STEAM programmes suitable for all academic levels, which provide its members with an educational environment that encourages them to enter the university level and determine the appropriate specialisation for them.
The centre is also interested in strengthening several participants’ skills, such as critical and creative thinking skills, analysis, effective communication skills in various forms, and refining their leadership personalities.
Dr Noora al-Thani, director of the Qatar University Young Scientists Centre, expressed pride in this great achievement, representing success for QU and the country. She added, "We focus on preparing qualified national cadres with a high degree of skill, knowledge and desire to innovate and contribute to supporting the prosperity and growth of their country. We are working to provide an environment that encourages students to build their capabilities and develop their skills to achieve sustainability in terms of innovation and economic growth."
She thanked the centre's partners, the Unesco Doha office and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.
