Katara - the Cultural Village witnessed a large public turnout Sunday during the Qatar National Day celebrations. The waterfront, the open-air amphitheater and the Wisdom Square were the most important destinations for the public to watch the closing performances of the activities accompanying the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in addition to the various heritage activities of the Katara Traditional Dhow Festival - which folded its 12th edition.
The Katara audience lived up the atmosphere of the authentic Qatari heritage with the Arda dance, which presented beautiful images of folklore, in which folk songs and national anthems were mixed.
For nearly a month, the Katara visitors experienced cultural, artistic and heritage events, activities and events in which the cultures and arts of the world embraced and people of various nationalities from around the world participated.
Katara marked the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 with great fanfare, being the most prominent cultural, tourist and entertainment destination ideal for lovers of heritage and culture. It also turned into a glowing flame of art and creativity and a vibrant and integrated cultural hub, in which the Qatari and Arab culture recorded its bright presence, within a brilliant creative scene.
On this occasion, Katara general manager Prof Dr Khaled bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, extended his warmest congratulations and blessings to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, reiterating the pledge of allegiance and loyalty to the wise leadership and stressing the continuation of the efforts that make Katara a cultural beacon of Qatar to the whole world.
He expressed his happiness that the world is participating in Qatar's celebrations of the National Day, which coincides with the final of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Salem Mabkhout al-Marri, director of Public Relations and Communication Department at Katara, appreciated the efforts of various local and international media outlets in covering various events as they had a great impact in delivering Katara's message seeking to build bridges of communication between peoples and cultures.
"Katara - the Cultural Village was an important station for correspondents who covered the public’s interaction with the various activities," he said.
Katara had started the activities accompanying the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on November 18 and continued until Sunday. These included: festivals, concerts, exhibitions, live performances, and various events in addition to the Katara Traditional Dhow Festival’s 12th edition, which recorded the participation of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Yemen, India, Turkey and Tanzania. They presented 50 pavilions showcasing exhibitions of marine heritage and crafts, known as 43 handicrafts, from the maritime heritage and cultural history, in addition to maritime competitions and workshops of ship-building and traditional dhows and ancient sea-faring using traditional methods.
Katara also received large numbers of World Cup fans who watched the matches in an enthusiastic atmosphere on two large screens at the waterfront.
The amphitheater hosted concerts of a number of world stars, in addition to a number of awareness lectures. The street art spread in the corridors of Katara and the handicrafts market attracted a large audience.
In its festive programme, Katara, in co-operation with a number of Arab and foreign embassies, presented about 20 exhibitions that focused on sports and arts. The Katara Publishing House published 22 books on culture and sports. In addition to the launch of a number of artistic murals.
Katara also received huge praise from international visitors who said they got to learn about Qatar and the region's great culture and at the same time were thoroughly entertained with activities for all.
