Al Ruwais and Hamad Ports veterinary quarantines received 13 consignments of sheep and buffalo during the recently concluded FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, pointed out Abdulaziz al-Zyarah, director of livestock department at the Ministry of Municipality. He told local Arabic daily 'Arrayah' that these consignments had a total number of 22,545 heads of livestock. Ten consignments with 16,385 animals were received at Al Ruwais Port and three with 6,160 animals at Al Ruwais Port.
Al Ruwais veterinary quarantine received three consignments of a total of 4,500 sheep during November and six consignments of 11,385 sheep in December, in addition to a consignment of 500 buffalo. The Hamad Port veterinary quarantine received three consignments of 6,160 sheep. Al-Zyarah said that Al Ruwais Veterinary Quarantine carried out various tests and examinations on 800 different laboratory samples taken randomly from as many imported animals to ensure they are free from any diseases. All results were good. He pointed out that Al Ruwais Veterinary Quarantine was working 24/7 during the World Cup, employing highly qualified veterinarians and specialists. Similarly, 160 tests and examinations were carried out on as many heads of livestock taken randomly from the cargo that arrived at Hamad Port Veterinary quarantine and all results were good. The official stressed that the veterinary quarantine facilities in Qatar are considered the most sophisticated and advanced in the region. Besides, they will play a key role in opening new horizons for the transit trade of livestock, through which their import and export will be enhanced considerably.
