Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) concluded the year 2022 with a number of excellent achievements and specialised projects that have taken its works to exceptional levels of efficiency and sustainability. In 2022, Kahramaa intensified its efforts at all its projects and works, whether related to the hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 or the water and electricity infrastructure development in Qatar, it was pointed out in a statement Saturday.Accordingly, Kahramaa accomplished around 19mn safe working hours to respond to the increasing demand on water and electricity. A Work Operations Centre was launched to respond to the World Cup demands by closely following the daily progress of the related work and the electricity network in the country to direct the technical teams concerned to address immediately any faults or outage.The number of substations monitored through Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) was increased, including 20 stations that pertain to the huge reservoirs projects and the stations that supply the World Cup Stadiums. More than 300 new projects were connected to water and electricity network across the country including stadiums, playgrounds, accommodations for the World Cup fans and visitors. Besides, studies were carried out to connect a large number of vital projects to water and electricity including the Old Doha Port, Abu Samra Land post, Qetaifan Island, Al Maha Island, and other project of major importance in hosting the World Cup in direct co-operation with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and the Supreme Committee of Delivery and Legacy (SC).In addition, 317 new applications were processed to supply water and electricity to the fan zones, beside the massive maintenance and enhancement works and the daily follow up efforts. Around 8,000 water meters were installed in October and November 2022 for the World Cup projects. Kahramaa made a major achievement through establishing more than 100 electric vehicle charging stations to support the sustainable transportation operations during the tournament. Also, charging units for electric vehicles were installed in record time to charge 320 electric vehicles dedicated to transport the VIPs and official delegations, in addition to six other units of ultra-speed charging at Jelaiah Car Park.Kahramaa, represented by its National Programme for the Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), installed and operated eight charging stations at the various World Cup stadiums and Kahramaa Awareness Park, and completed the installation and operation of 30 other stations as part of the project of the beautification of downtown Doha and Corniche Area in co-operation with Ashghal. In 2022, Kahramaa continued its efforts to enhance the national electricity network through a wide collection of projects and works. It succeeded in launching 10 main high voltage electricity stations to expand its electricity transmission network, besides the other related major maintenance works and replacing the old disconnected stations.Accordingly, 898 distribution stations were operated last year and 1,474 new transformers were installed to keep pace with the urban development and expansion in the country. As many as 7,200 new subscribers were connected to Kahramaa networks, and all the related technical works accomplished to increase the efficiency of the network. As for achieving the water security of Qatar, Kahramaa accomplished various projects and works with a total annual production of water amounting to 671mn cubic meters of water. New water networks were launched across 151km, in diameter ranging from 100mm up to 1,600mm to improve water supply and connect new subscribers to the network. Last year, 3,900 new buildings were connected to the water network, and 35,983 complaints regarding water were addressed successfully. Further, maintenance and upgrading works were carried out at 56 water installations and facilities.Kahramaa has also made new major achievements in improving and upgrading the services of the subscribers and enhanced its online customer services and transactions, the statement added.
