The Australian authorities evacuated hundreds of people due to floods and bad weather in the northwestern areas.
Local media reported that the town of Fitzroy Crossing, which has a population of around 1300, was among the most affected, adding that supplies are being flown in due to flooded roads. The authorities evacuated 233 people and answered 54 calls for help.
Bureau of Meteorology said that rainfall eased as ex-tropical cyclone Ellie turned east toward the Northern Territory, but warned of continued record-breaking large floods in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
The Australian Minister for Emergency Services Stephen Dawson said "for everyone across Western Australia at this time, please take care of your family members," adding that the Australian Defence Force is working to support cities across the region as record-breaking floods continue.
In turn, the authorities warned the state of Queensland of the possibility of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain on Sunday. Residents in the far west of New South Wales were also warned that the Darling River had not yet reached its peak.
