Qatar Charity delivers artificial limbs to people with disabilities in Pakistan

With the support of philanthropists in Qatar, Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed prosthetic limbs to 260 people with disabilities in Pakistan, in co-operation with the charity Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal and the Pakistan Institute of Prosthetics and Orthotics.The distribution process took place in two phases, benefiting 200 people in the Swat region in the first phase, and 60 people in the Khyber region in the second phase, a press statement noted.The main objective of this project was to provide prostheses for people with disabilities who have lost parts of their bodies due to various accidents, as part of the social welfare efforts implemented by the QC.Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal regional director Lal Badshah thanked Qatar Charity for helping the most vulnerable segments of Pakistani society, saying: "We have made sure that the project is carried out professionally."The head of the Pakistani Institute for Prosthetics and Orthotics, Dr Javed Ghani, praised the efforts of the good people in Qatar, saying: "A technically trained medical staff supervised the process of manufacturing the prostheses according to the size and needs of people with disabilities."Minat Shah, a resident of the Khyber region who lost his legs in a traffic accident, said: "I stayed like this for several years and went through very difficult situations.”"When I heard about the Qatar Charity project to hand artificial limbs to people with disabilities, I registered and they immediately started treating me and provided me with two prostheses," he said."I am very grateful to the philanthropists in Qatar and Qatar Charity, who gave me hope for a new life,” Shah added. "I was unable to continue my education, nor could I walk or work, but now I can move easily, thank you."The QC signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding in 2021 with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal and the Pakistani Institute of Prosthetics and Orthotics to provide prostheses for people with disabilities in the Swat region of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan.According to the memorandum of understanding, Qatar Charity will finance the project, while the Pakistan Institute of Prosthetics and Orthotics will undertake the implementation process.The QC has been working with the Pakistani Treasury for a long time throughout Pakistan.Previously, prosthetic limbs were provided to people with disabilities in Balochistan province.
