With its diverse and rich flora and fauna, Al-Shu’aa reserve in Al Khor City is beckoning visitors. The park is home to 14 species of animals and birds, including turtles, rabbits, ostriches, turkeys, chickens, doves, pigeons, geese, ducks, quails, Arabian oryx, deer, goats and horses.Abdullah Muqalled al-Muraikhi, member of the 25th constituency of the Central Municipal Council (CMC), told local Arabic daily Arrayah that the reserve is a prime destination for families and other residents in the area."Spread across 13,000 sq m, Al Shu’aa reserve is unique with its several features that make visiting an enjoyable experience for families, especially for children."The entry is free and many families in the area prefer to spend the evening at the park where the children can watch animals and birds and get to know them closely."The CMC member recalled that the reserve was opened several years ago with the support of the Ras Laffan Programme for Social Communication within the framework of the Ministry of Municipality's keenness to provide a recreational outlet for the people of the area.There are permanent shelters for the animals and birds and constant care is provided by the authorities concerned. The green area includes dozens of trees, children’s play areas and solar-powered lighting poles.Jassim Mohammed al-Emadi, a local resident, said that the unique reserve is popular with families, whether citizens or residents.
