Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Culture and several Qatari publishers, is participating in the 54th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF), which kicked off yesterday.
Ministry of Culture's pavilion supervisor Ahmed Al Emadi said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that presenting Qatar's culture and heritage under the country's wise leadership is of particular importance in such cultural exchange events, particularly CIBF, which has a special place in the hearts of every Arab intellectual.
Al Emadi pointed out that the pavilion encompasses a number of books published by the Ministry of Culture in various cultural and literary fields.
CEO of Roza publishing house Aisha Al Kuwari said in a similar statement to QNA that this is the publishing house's first participation in CIBF, and that one of Roza's most important goals is to promote Qatari culture, stressing that the publishing house is keen on participating in all Arab and international book fairs in order to introduce the publications of Qatari authors in particular and those affiliated with the house in general, in addition to creating new channels for the distribution of its publications.
For its part, the Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press pavilion hosts an important section for Qatari publications on the promotion of societal identity and belonging, along with a variety of other publications, such as children's literature, as well as publications on the development of journalism in Qatar.
Katara Publishing House's participation highlights Qatar's important role on the Arab cultural scene, especially through its support for Arabic novels and its enrichment of cultural life by promoting the works of Arab writers, through an array of Arab publications that won the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel.
1047 publishers from 51 countries will participate in the activities of the Cairo International Book Fair, which is accompanied by 500 cultural events on the book fair's sidelines, with the 54th edition concluding on February 6.
