This came in a recorded speech by HE Sheikha Alya during the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, held under the title 'The Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Multidimensional Poverty: Further Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Beyond.' HE Sheikha Alya added that the permanent delegation of Qatar to the United Nations in New York has since assumed the task of facilitating informal consultations regarding the draft resolution to proclaim the International Year of the Family, which is presented annually in the United Nations General Assembly Third Committee on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, referring to the recent resolution in this regard adopted by the United Nations General Assembly last November, according to which the preparations for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the International Year of the Family were launched.
HE Sheikha Alya said that Qatar is currently working in co-operation with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs to prepare to host the international conference to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the International Year of the Family in Doha in 2024, which would contribute to promoting the concept of family according to our Arab and Islamic culture. In this regard, she expressed her appreciation to the Ministry of Social Development and Family for its efforts in leading the cohesive Arab family project as the guarantee of a strong and sustainable growth society.
In the context of her speech, she appreciated the Arab efforts in the field of caring for people with disabilities, referring in this context to the issue of spreading the implementation of the Unified Arab Classification of Disability, which was adopted in Doha last June. She expressed her keenness for the support of the ministers and their participation in Qatar's efforts to host the Fourth Global Disability Summit, which will be held in Doha in 2028 in co-operation with the International Disability Alliance, through which the regional achievements of the Arab region in this important field can be highlighted.
