A general strike took place in the town of Jabal Mukaber, southeast of occupied Jerusalem on Tuesday to protest the Israeli occupation's demolition of homes and facilities and displacement of Jerusalemites.
The people of Jabal Mukaber closed the streets of the town from all sides to confront the bulldozers and the occupation forces, preventing them from demolishing their homes.
According to the follow-up committee in Jabal Mukaber, 800 housing units are threatened with demolition by the Israeli occupation authorities.
The occupation municipality plans to build commercial centres and 500 housing units in shared buildings containing several families in exchange for the demolished housing units.
The follow-up committee warned of the Israeli occupation plan, which will deprive the residents of Jabal Mukaber of urban expansion in the future and will force young people to leave the towns of Jerusalem to the city's periphery to obtain housing.
For two days straight, the Israeli occupation municipality vehicles demolished a two-story building and a commercial facility, leveled land in the town of Jabal Mukaber.
