The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change's Department of Marine Environment, Doha Unit, has spotted some abandoned fishing nets near Al Alya Island and removed them and cleaned the area thoroughly. The ministry pointed out that these nets negatively impact fish, coral reef, turtles and dugongs, in addition to marine birds and marine engines. The Department of Marine Environment is keen on intensifying its control efforts on the marine and coastal environment, especially during the fishing season. The department also works on raising the awareness of fishermen and the related professionals to avoid any potential violations that could harm the environment.
