An earthquake expert at the General Authority of Civil Aviation (CAA) Dr Reda Abdel-Fattah said that there were 600 aftershocks of the earthquake that struck southern Turkiye and northern Syria, five of which were felt in the area where the quake occurred.
The expert said that although the aftershocks have receded it is difficult to predict the time and location of the earthquake, despite scientific advancement.
Dr Abdel-Fattah reassured the residents of Qatar that the county is far from seismic danger as it is not in a seismic line.
He underlined the role played by Qatar Seismic Network, which was established in 2014 to monitor earthquakes, in addition to its co-operation with the networks in GCC countries and international networks.
Qatar Seismic Network is equipped with the latest technologies and systems, including nine seismic monitoring stations, three of which are deep stations with a depth of more than 100m and six surface stations.
The stations provide vital information in addition to their important role in monitoring any seismic activity and warning of any imminent earthquake.
