The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has announced the closure of the fruit and vegetable section at three food outlets in Hazm Al Markhiya, Lusail and Old Airport for violation of Article 7 of Law No. 8 of 2008 on consumer protection.
The violations consisted of displaying products that included misleading data by changing the country of origin for some products, and mixing products of different quality with the aim of selling them at a higher price, which is considered a violation of consumers’ rights, the ministry said in a statement.
The closure period was three days for each outlet, from February 7 to 9. The closure covered Marza Hypermarket, Abu Khalifa Trading and Family Food Centre.
This measure comes as part of the intensive inspection campaigns carried out by the MoCI to monitor markets and commercial activities in Qatar, with the aim of controlling prices and uncovering abuses and fraudulent, counterfeit, and non-conforming goods, the statement notes.
The ministry stressed that it would not tolerate any negligence in terms of meeting obligations stipulated in Law No. 8 of 2008 on Consumer Protection and its executive bylaws. It is working to intensify its inspection campaigns to control violating practices and to refer violators of laws and ministerial decisions to the competent authorities to take due measures.
The MoCI has urged all citizens and residents to report any violations through the call centre: 16001; Twitter: @MOCIQATAR; and Instagram: MOCIQATAR
