The 30 Primary Health Care Centres across Qatar registered as many as 8mn requests for medications in 2022, an official told local Arabic daily Arrayah.
Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) Pharmacy and Therapeutics Supply head Dr Mahmoud al-Mahmoud explained that these requests are medical prescriptions for different types of medications.
There were 925 types of medications at the health centres during 2022, compared to 900 in 2021.
The newly added types included drugs for diabetes, paediatrics and psychiatry.
Demand for medicines at the health centres rose by 10% in 2022 as against 2021.
The total cost for the drugs and medications supplied by the PHCC amounted to QR330mn in 2022.
Dr al-Mahmoud said that the increase in demand for medication is mainly due to the increase in the numbers of patients at the health centres, in addition to those referred from the Hamad Medical Corporation.
He said that there are about 300 pharmacists working at the health centres.
The official added that any patient can get his or her prescriptions filled from any health centre, irrespective of where they are registered.
The home delivery service of medication is available within two working days for a fee of QR30 through Qatar Post.
